Hour Visits - Marae Day Tour
This Maori cultural experience is ideal for visitors to Hokianga who have limited time and are budget conscious.
Experience unique Maori culture from Monday to Saturday from a traditional Powhiri – formal Maori welcome to the marae, to the Whakawatea - traditional Maori farewell.
Where: Motuti Marae, Motuti on the picturesque Hokianga Harbour
When: Mon – Fri, at 11 am and 2 pm for morning or afternoon tea
Cost: Adults $25 per person; Students 13 – 17 $10.00 Children 12 years old and under are FREE (must be accompanied by an adult).
This Maori cultural experience takes approximately an hour and a half and includes:


1 Powhiri - a guide will meet you at the Marae entrance and briefly explain the formal Maori welcome process before escorting you onto the Marae.
2 Kai – you will share morning or afternoon tea with your hosts on the Marae sampling traditional Maori bread, Motuti honey, homemade jams and fresh fruit.
Learn about the history of Hokianga beautifully portrayed in the carvings, tukutuku panels and rafters. Watch as our young women weave, make poi and demonstrate tititoria – stick games. Experience the Whakawatea – farewell with traditional waiata – Maori song.
